National Animals
in Disaster Conference 6-1-06
Ben
Waldman and Judy Clark attended the HSUS sponsored "National Animals in
Disaster" conference held in Washington DC last week. The conference
provided a wealth of information and afforded the opportunity to put faces with
names for many rescuers and groups we have worked with over the past year.
Both Ben and Judy participated in the NIMS 700 training course and received
certificates for this course. This is key as we approach hurricane season.
There are a myriad of requirements for participation in coordinated relief
efforts and we are attempting to take all the classes before July 1. The
good news is that they are all available on-line for free, through FEMA ... the
bad news is that they take time and nobody seems to know for sure what classes
are required for first responders.
Emergency
Puppy Transport - In Illinois?? 5-11-06
Yesterday, we received a call from a shelter in Central Illinois where we had
delivered several puppies on our last transport. The shelter had placed
the puppies in loving, wonderful furr-ever homes after a seven day hold.
Three days after the new families welcomed the little ones to their families,
they came down with parvo virus. The puppies ended up at two different
animal hospitals in the north suburbs of Chicago. Unfortunately, these
animal hospitals wanted a $3,800 "deposit" per puppy to treat for parvo.
They quoted the shelter a rate of $6,000 to $8,000 per puppy to treat the parvo
virus! Since the shelter has a thirty day health guarantee, these
staggering amounts would have bankrupted the shelter. Triple R Pets went
and met the owners and picked up the puppies and took them to a wonderful,
caring animal hospital in Morton, Illinois called Tender Care.
The veterinary staff of Dr. Mark Larson and Dr. Jennifer Newcomb waited until we
arrived and ensured that the puppies (who actually looked great!) were assessed
stabilized. We visit many animal hospitals and some just stand out!
This is certainly one we recommend to anyone in the Central Illinois area! Tender Care Animal Hospital, Member of AAHA, 300 E Courtland Ave, Morton,

Garage Sale
Fundraiser a Success! - 5-7-06
A HUGE
thanks to Collette Walker, Chris Schneider, Mary Gaines, Pete Gaines, Andie
Bennett, Gary Bennett, Larry Clark and Claudia Beckman for helping Triple R Pets
hold their first garage sale! Collette spearheaded the event and did a
great job soliciting donations from all over. It was a l-o-n-g two days, but it was worth it. We netted over $900.00 to help with
Gulf Coast relief.
Biloxi High
has a prom thanks to some great volunteers from
Pennsylvania 4-22-06
Think a
few people can't make a big difference? Think again. When a couple
volunteers came down from PA last fall, they returned home with thoughts of the
kids of Biloxi on their mind. Realizing that this graduating class would
not have a prom, they decided to do something. Click here to read the full story.
Foster
Family Update 4-21-06
A family that adopted
a puppy very early after the hurricane has now become a foster family for us!
Last week, we took in a mom and six puppies from an overwhelmed shelter in
Southern Indiana. Then, on Tuesday of this week, we accepted four seven
day old puppies from DuPage Animal Control. These pups' mom had stopped
feeding them and they needed a nursing mother. Our proud mom from Indiana
accepted them, and mom and all ten of her babies are now in a northern suburb
with their foster family. They will be ready for adoption when they are
eight to ten weeks and have been spayed / neutered.

Happy Tails and Adoptable Pet Pages 4-17-06
We are happy to
announce that we have two new pages on our site. The first, is Adoptable Pets. This page contains a
viewing of the animals that we are trying to place. Some may be directly
in our care, others may be animals we are helping other groups to place.
The second, is a Happy Tails page, listing pictures
and stories of animals we have rescued or worked with. If you have adopted
a pet directly through us, or from a shelter where we have transported pets,
please e-mail us a picture and the story of your rescue! We hope you will
enjoy both these pages!
